Preface to Romans Commentary
During the years that Luther lectured on Romans and Galatians, he finally experienced liberty of conscience. John Wesley was converted from hearing Luther's Preface to his commentary on Romans. Luther believed that the whole Bible could be better understood from the theology in Romans.
The Lives of Others
An Oscar winner for Best Foreign Film (2007), this is my favorite film. The main character teaches interrogation for the Stasi and as he surveils a successful play writer, his life is secretly changed. A profound and moving film.
Mere Christianity
Mere Christianity is a series of talks by CS Lewis on BBC radio, delivered at great risk during the years of WWII. Lewis was a committed atheist and in his research to disprove the Christian religion, he was convinced that it was the most convincing and compelling basis for truth and goodness.
unChristian
Although somewhat dated, this Barna Group research is from over 5,000 interviews with millennials regarding their impressions of Christians and Christianity, and the results are highly instructive.
CS Lewis: A Life
"In C.S. Lewis―A Life, Alister McGrath, prolific author and respected professor at King’s College of London, paints a definitive portrait of the life of C. S. Lewis. After thoroughly examining recently published Lewis correspondence, Alister challenges some of the previously held beliefs about the exact timing of Lewis’s shift from atheism to theism and then to Christianity. He paints a portrait of an eccentric thinker who became an inspiring, though reluctant, prophet for our times."
Simply Christian
"For two thousand years, Christianity has claimed to answer the mystery of human existence. Renowned biblical scholar and Anglican bishop N. T. Wright—the award-winning author Newsweek hails as “the world’s leading New Testament scholar”—argues that the Christian faith still holds the answers today. "
